Prudent Politicians

Malaysian politicians from Selangor should learn a thing or two from their UK counterparts. Senior British politicians have lined up to condemn plans by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) to grant them an 11 % pay rise.

They said they would not accept the extra cash; in fact, they would be embarrassed at how such largesse will be perceived at a time of deep public spending cuts.

In this country, we are witnessing skyrocketing prices of goods and services. Certainly, times are tough for many Malaysians; therefore, massive salary hikes for state assemblypersons and others are inappropriate when ordinary folks are hurting.

On Saturday, MIMKL had a thematic meeting, Sorcerers: Witches and Wizards. A few members were in costumes – I wasn’t – it would have been great if everybody were sporting.  Oh well...

I was a last-minute speaker and I presented CC speech #9 titled “Imagine”. It was a fairly good speech – I was voted Best Assignment Speaker – but my ending was somewhat meandering because the Timekeeper wasn’t doing her job! Overall, the meeting was well-attended and I would give it a score of a 6.5 over 10.
