As M&M’s celebrates its 85th birthday, it’s rolling out a new version of its candy made without artificial dyes starting in August.
The catch? Blue and brown candies won’t be part of the first lineup because Mars say those colors have been especially difficult and expensive to recreate using natural ingredients.
After experimenting with alternatives like pink and purple, the company decided to stick with red, yellow, orange, and green for now, with plans to bring back the full color mix by 2028.
The move was compelled because of renewed pressure on food companies to phase out artificial dyes, despite Mars previously backing away from a similar pledge years ago.
The announcement by Mars was first reported by The Wall Street Journal on June 18, and it comes after the candy maker went public in 2025 with their intent to offer non-artificially colored options for M&M’s Chocolate, Skittles Original, Extra Gum Spearmint, and Starburst Original fruit chews by 2026.
Well, color me shocked! I never would have guessed! 😁😁😁
