Covid in Malaysia: Soaring High
This means we can look forward to the prospect of an exciting title race with 12 games left!
Two penalties from Mohamed Salah (15, 35), either side of Joel Matip's first goal of the season in the thirtieth minute, gave the Reds a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
The Whites managed to stem the flow for a period in the second half but Sadio Mane netted twice (80, 90) before Virgil van Dijk scored in injury time to secure a 6-0 victory.
This is the Liverpool I love – serious and relentless. Now just a three-point gap to close up!

A Bad Report Card for Malaysia
It would appear many of my fellow citizens do agree with me!
The 2022 report by the Singapore-based ASEAN Studies Centre at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute confirmed that Putrajaya’s handling of the Covid crisis was rated negatively by Malaysians.
In the regional survey they had conducted to produce the said scoop, 51.8 percent of Malaysians had labelled the government’s response as “poor” or “very poor”, compared to 28.3 percent the previous year.
In comparison, just 10.4 percent of respondents rated the response as “well” and 22.2 percent said it was “adequate”. This was also a decline compared to the result in 2021 when there had been 14.5 percent for “well” and 40.2 percent for “adequate”.

Philppines Pins Hope on Russian or Chinese Vaccine
Going by media reports, they seem to suggest that the Philippines is losing the battle against Covid-19. Despite multiple lockdowns.
It is Southeast Asia’s worst-affected country, having already claimed 2,883 lives and infected more than 178,000 others.
The situation is so bleak that a Thai newspaper last week sardonically referred to the Philippines as “the land of Covid-19”, prompting a diplomatic protest from Manila.

Yesterday, an invite from Saiful Ikram of LEAP Toastmasters Club saw me at another Zoom meeting. I was tasked to evaluate the club president who spoke on a Public Relations Strategies project.

11 Million Coronavirus Cases
The US merits special mention because things have taken a turn for the worse. Its infection curve has risen in 40 of the 50 states and according to data compiled by the volunteer COVID Tracking Project, all but 10 states are showing an upswing in newly reported cases over the past 14 days.
Among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Indonesia and Philippines continue to reel from spiralling coronavirus cases – as opposed to the other eight ASEAN countries:

I've not reported on ASEAN countries for quite some time – anyway, here's the latest update as at yesterday:
