Renewed Western-backed Turmoil in Georgia

Georgia’s Western-backed radical opposition have repeatedly failed to win elections and have instead turned to attempts to overthrow the government, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze (left) asserted following renewed unrest in Tbilisi.

Following municipal elections in which Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze of the ruling Georgian Dream party was re-elected, protesters sought to breach the presidential residence in the  nation’s capital on Saturday night, leading to violent clashes with police.

Speaking on national television on Monday, Kobakhidze claimed that the radical opposition had “lost ten elections and staged five coup attempts in just four years”, describing their actions as deliberate sabotage.

According to Kobakhidze, around 500 mostly young activists rotate through street rallies orchestrated by opposition politicians who cannot gain real support through elections and instead seek to “create permanent problems for the country”.

The prime minister accused the opposition’s leaders, including Georgia’s former President Salome Zourabichvili (right), of being “foreign agents made from the same mold”.

He claimed that Zourabichvili, who refused to step down after her term expired last December, planned to seize the presidential office with the help of rioters but “fled like a rat when the ship began to sink”.

Chang'e-6 to Collect the First Lunar Far Side Samples

China’s Chang’e-6 lunar probe successfully landed on the far side of the moon – the South Pole-Aitken Basin (SPA) – at 06:23 AM Beijing time on Sunday, a landmark mission which aims to retrieve rocks and soil from the lunar surface, China’s National Space Administration (CNSA) announced.

The lunar south pole is attracting a lot of attention these days, mainly because of the possibility of the presence of game-changing amounts of water ice trapped in shadowed craters. Water reserves could make lunar habitats much more viable and potentially be used for propellant for sending missions farther out into the Solar System.

And scientists say the moon’s dark side so-called because it is invisible from Earth, not because it never catches the sun’s rays holds great promise for research because its craters are less covered by ancient lava flows than the near side. Material collected from the dark side may better shed light on how the moon formed in the first place.

The landing elevates China’s space power status in a global rush to the moon, where countries, including the US, are hoping to exploit lunar minerals to sustain long-term astronaut missions and moon bases.

On Friday, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze (left) finally revealed that the United States has been behind two failed ‘color revolutions’, i.e. in 2020-2021, and then in 2022 and therefore, Tbilisi needs to “reconsider” its relationship with Washington.

So, there you have it – hostile acts perpetrated by the US to effect regime change in the former Soviet republic. The US just won't stop!

Shovels and Mercenaries

Ukraine provoked Russia. And when the latter lost its patience and launched a special military operation to halt the former’s aggression, Ukraine realized too late it is no match for Russia.

Still, with ringing encouragement and belligerent instigation from the US and NATO, it carried on fighting, in spite of heavy losses. Obviously, it wants to continue fighting until the last Ukrainian.

And to keep on fighting, it grovels and begs the collective West for weapons, financial support and sanctions on Russia.

In fact, as recent as Thursday, its ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova had asked for more weapons, more financial support and more sanctions on Russia.

And on Monday, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister speaking on a German news broadcaster ARD talk show, even declared that Ukrainians “will fight with shovels if they had to”!

But there’s no shortage of mercenaries going to the country and fight alongside Ukrainians. From a Scott Ritter News posting on Monday:

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Poland has the most number of mercenaries in Ukraine. And of course, mercs from that country suffered the most serious losses, i.e. the most killed and the most wounded.

It’s okay to die for your country – but for these hired guns, it’s wasted lives and needless deaths.

The WHO said on Friday that as of October 08, 2014, a total of 4,033 people have now died of Ebola out of 8,399 registered cases in seven countries. The last toll put the figures at 3,865 dead from 8,033 cases.

The seven affected countries are split into two groups by WHO. The first includes Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone by far the worst-affected countries. The second group consists of Nigeria, Senegal, Spain and the US of A, which have seen a wee number of highly isolated cases.

Health workers continue to pay a heavy price for their efforts, with 233 deaths out of 416 cases across the countries.

Jan Eliasson, UN deputy secretary-general, said catching up with "the menacing exponential curve of the virus" demands a massive increase in financial resources, medical staff and equipment.

"I now appeal to all member states to act generously and swiftly," he said.

I wonder if Malaysia's contribution of 20.9 million medical gloves have already left the country.

On Saturday, Scotland kick-started their European Championship qualifying campaign with a deserved, if far from emphatic, 1-0 win over Georgia. In the twenty-eighth minute, a powerful shot from Shaun Maloney was saved but then struck Akaki Khubutia to spin into the net for an own goal.

It is good to know that Scotland won in this first home match. They had lost 1-2 in their Group D opener to Germany on September 07, 2014.
