4,033 Dead from Ebola

The WHO said on Friday that as of October 08, 2014, a total of 4,033 people have now died of Ebola out of 8,399 registered cases in seven countries. The last toll put the figures at 3,865 dead from 8,033 cases.

 

The seven affected countries are split into two groups by WHO. The first includes Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone – by far the worst-affected countries. The second group consists of Nigeria, Senegal, Spain and the US of A, which have seen a wee number of highly isolated cases.

 

Health workers continue to pay a heavy price for their efforts, with 233 deaths out of 416 cases across the countries.

 

Jan Eliasson, UN deputy secretary-general, said catching up with "the menacing exponential curve of the virus" demands a massive increase in financial resources, medical staff and equipment.

 

"I now appeal to all member states to act generously and swiftly," he said.

 

I wonder if Malaysia's contribution of 20.9 million medical gloves have already left the country.

 

On Saturday, Scotland kick-started their European Championship qualifying campaign with a deserved, if far from emphatic, 1-0 win over Georgia. In the twenty-eighth minute, a powerful shot from Shaun Maloney was saved but then struck Akaki Khubutia to spin into the net for an own goal.

 

It is good to know that Scotland won in this first home match. They had lost 1-2 in their Group D opener to Germany on September 07, 2014.
