D51 AC2018: Masquerade Ball

The last recording in my D51 Annual Conference 2018 video collection is the Gala Night event:

Here it is, video #15:

All In all, this D51 Annual Conference 2018 has been one helluva event. THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE MAGICAL MEMORIES!

Truly unforgettable.

Yesterday, I received an SOS from Wincy Tang of Frasers Kuala Lumpur Toastmasters Club to help evaluate Mah Yip Sek’s Advanced speech from the Special Occasion Speeches manual.

And there I was together with fourteen hotel staff at Fraser Place Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Perak, Kuala Lumpur on that same day itself.

I am glad to have made it to this meeting because I have a special regard for this Toastmasters club.

‘Twas a good speech Chef Mah delivered and unsurprisingly, he was rightfully voted Best Project speaker. And ahem, I was voted Best Evaluator.

The spread at dinner was superb – especially Chef Mah’s nasi goreng kampung. I must confess I'm still thinking about it. And if I'm going to be honest with you, I'm yearning for that fried rice again, hahaha! This man can cook as well as he can speak!

Here are the photos from the said meeting that I managed to capture:

Happy Merdeka 2018!

D51 AC2018: Specialist Speakers' Open Forum

Video #14 is D51 AC2018 SPECIALIST SPEAKERS’ Open Forum on April 21, 2018 – snippets of sharing cleverly camouflaged as a Q&A session:

On Sunday, national squash queen Nicol David secured Malaysia’s second gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games by winning the individual women’s squash event in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The top seed edged fellow Malaysian, S Sivansangari in a five-set thriller (11-13, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6 and 11-8).

It was David's fifth gold medal at the Asian Games, having won the gold medal four times, namely in 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

D51 AC2018: Coach Mel

Video #12 is D51 AC2018 SPECIALIST SPEAKERS featuring Coach Mel on April 21, 2018.

Australia-based Melvin Leow may be a non-Toastmaster – but there is much we can learn from him too.

Ungrudgingly, he gave out his prized collection of inspirational nuggets filled generously with sagacity and wisdom; unmistakably, unselfish to a fault.

His topic that he shared with us: How to Stop Living in Default & Start Living the Life You Desire:

I was at the Zuellig Pharma Shah Alam Toastmasters meeting last evening to present an Advanced speech from the Speaking to Inform manual – an assignment The Abstract Concept titled Depression Defined.

Thanks to Zarina Abu Bakar and Ashmeer Anuar for the kind arrangements.

I also evaluated the other speaker, i.e. Ash.

Second-hand Smoke Poses Real Health Risks

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati in the US of A have found that second-hand tobacco smoke poses real health risks to teenagers’ health.

The study looked at data gathered from 7,389 non-smoking teens without asthma over the age of twelve.

The researchers found that teens who reportedly were exposed to just one hour of second-hand smoke per week were 1.5 times more likely to find it harder to exercise, two times more likely to experience wheezing during or after exercise, two times more likely to have a dry cough at night, and 1.5 times more likely to miss school due to illness, when compared to teens who were not exposed.

Adolescents exposed to second-hand smoke were also less likely to report very good or excellent overall health and physical health, and more likely to seek treatment at an urgent care or hospital emergency department.

“There is no safe level of second-hand smoke exposure,” said lead investigator Ashley Merianos.

Therefore, it is time to consider a total ban on tobacco products.

In Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Hamilton Academical, the former had struggled before they carved a 1-0 win. Thanks to Dedryck Boyata's goal in the sixty-third minute.

One sports writer described this game as “a very underwhelming Celtic performance”. It reminded me of Liverpool’s match on Saturday.

It’s weird – but this morning, I had the same craving for Indomie again.

So I went back to ‘Q’ Bistro for my morning fix:

Indomie double with telur goreng (fried egg) and my usual Coke @ RM10.20

The other time, I said I found ‘happiness’. Well, it’s not true.

When I have Coke and Indomie together – it’s ‘double happiness’, LOL!

Jai Narayan is a Toastmaster in Bangalore, India – with the Smedley Speakers Society in District 92. His topic is Putting Passion and Power in Persuasion:

I’m at a crossroads. That's why I’m taking stock of my Toastmasters exploits todate:

In this post, I intend to celebrate my accomplishments thus far. For sure, I have benefited tremendously from Toastmasters and I have much to be grateful about.

Where shall I go from here? is one question that has been needling me. I’ve been asking since April this year.

My mind tells me to quit. My heart is in two minds.

Like I said, I’m at a crossroads.
