D51 AC2018: Masquerade Ball

The last recording in my D51 Annual Conference 2018 video collection is the Gala Night event:

Here it is, video #15:

All In all, this D51 Annual Conference 2018 has been one helluva event. THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE MAGICAL MEMORIES!

Truly unforgettable.

Yesterday, I received an SOS from Wincy Tang of Frasers Kuala Lumpur Toastmasters Club to help evaluate Mah Yip Sek’s Advanced speech from the Special Occasion Speeches manual.

And there I was together with fourteen hotel staff at Fraser Place Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Perak, Kuala Lumpur on that same day itself.

I am glad to have made it to this meeting because I have a special regard for this Toastmasters club.

‘Twas a good speech Chef Mah delivered and unsurprisingly, he was rightfully voted Best Project speaker. And ahem, I was voted Best Evaluator.

The spread at dinner was superb – especially Chef Mah’s nasi goreng kampung. I must confess I'm still thinking about it. And if I'm going to be honest with you, I'm yearning for that fried rice again, hahaha! This man can cook as well as he can speak!

Here are the photos from the said meeting that I managed to capture:

Happy Merdeka 2018!

Today is Merdeka Day and we have a new Malaysia!

"Makcik" Spy Chief In MACC Custody

The Star Online, August 29, 2018

A follow-up to my August 29, 2018 post

In addition to the seven MEIO officers, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission took Hasanah Abdul Hamid, 61, who headed the spy organization, formally known as the Research Department of the Prime Minister’s Department, into custody on Tuesday.

The authorities had so far seized $6.3 million from a number of locations nationwide while investigating the Malaysian External Intelligence Organization for siphoning funds supposedly meant for GE14.

MACC said action was taken because the alleged offence was committed using money under the care of a civil servant, which rendered it as government funds.

According to Malay Mail Online on Thursday, the federal graft-busters believe a total sum of $12 million was allegedly misappropriated and are actively searching for the remaining loot.

They are checking the source of the funds and how the cash was raised as well as how it came into the country.

Malaysiakini reported today that MEIO might have received the said $12 million from a Middle Eastern country, which was later brought into Malaysia ahead of the May 09 general election.

It is an established fact that cold, hard cash was brought into the country. Does this mean that Hasanah's henchmen were just 'pretend' spies; that their real job was to serve as cash mules?

And one story floating around had even suggested that it was Jho Low, then hiding in Dubai, UAE who had sent over the money in order to help Najib Razak and UMNO win GE14.

D51 AC2018: Emily Ng (黄佩玲)

This is video #13 which is D51 AC2018 SPECIALIST SPEAKERS featuring Emily Ng on April 21, 2018:

Emily Ng (黄佩玲) is a Toastmaster with the Penang Hokkien Association Toastmasters Club in District 51. And her topic is “如何让演讲的内涵更上一层楼?”

And since today is Merdeka Eve, I’m dedicating these two videos to all Malaysians!

A Den of Thieves in Putrajaya

I’m alarmed that Malaysian civil servants are being exposed as crooks and thieves.

And given that we have a bloated civil service – it means that there is a real possibility that a big number of pilferers and plunderers are amongst them!

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad informed Malaysians on Sunday: “Government officers made RM200,000 a month. Where did (the money) come from? It was all stolen money. (And) some government officers were given RM300 million for projects – but pocketed RM100 million”.

It is, therefore, timely that he issued the warning: “Those who (committed these crimes) will have their comeuppance. Malaysia has its laws”.

Their days are numbered. And our jails will be full.

D51 AC2018: Specialist Speakers' Open Forum

Video #14 is D51 AC2018 SPECIALIST SPEAKERS’ Open Forum on April 21, 2018 – snippets of sharing cleverly camouflaged as a Q&A session:

On Sunday, national squash queen Nicol David secured Malaysia’s second gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games by winning the individual women’s squash event in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The top seed edged fellow Malaysian, S Sivansangari in a five-set thriller (11-13, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6 and 11-8).

It was David's fifth gold medal at the Asian Games, having won the gold medal four times, namely in 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

A Thorny Problem With MCA "Tin Kosongs"

MCA have passed their expiry date and sadly, they are obliviously unaware. I guess you could call them the living dead.

D51 AC2018: Coach Mel

Video #12 is D51 AC2018 SPECIALIST SPEAKERS featuring Coach Mel on April 21, 2018.

Australia-based Melvin Leow may be a non-Toastmaster – but there is much we can learn from him too.

Ungrudgingly, he gave out his prized collection of inspirational nuggets filled generously with sagacity and wisdom; unmistakably, unselfish to a fault.

His topic that he shared with us: How to Stop Living in Default & Start Living the Life You Desire:

I was at the Zuellig Pharma Shah Alam Toastmasters meeting last evening to present an Advanced speech from the Speaking to Inform manual – an assignment The Abstract Concept titled Depression Defined.

Thanks to Zarina Abu Bakar and Ashmeer Anuar for the kind arrangements.

I also evaluated the other speaker, i.e. Ash.
