Here's Poovaa Again

Poovaa is one of those rare singers where if you’ve listened to one of her songs, you just want to keep listening to her again and again. Whether it's the same song or another one of her numbers. Epic addiction!

Here’s her Glenn Fredly cover titled “Akhir Cerita Cinta” – and at the risk of repeating myself, it’s a beautiful rendition. As always.

It has a nice R&B wallop to it! Simply gorgeous!

Sumithra Devi is a passionate artist ("Sumithra Art") and a Toastmaster.

Here she has kindly lent her voice to do a micro video to promote World Speech Day 2021 – her cheerful voice enthused with a chirpy verve that wonderfully captivates:

Poovaa's Ode to a Heartbreak

Poovaa’s first Malay single “Karya” is out!

One cannot be impassive when one listens to her. She has the ability to grip you tightly in an embrace of hopeless anguish. Her vocals possess that intensity and depth that can beckon pain to slice right into you.

“Karya” is a song that summons waves of giddying emotions to sweep you away and bury you deep in convulsions of mournful melancholy. A gut-wrenching psalm that imprisons you in a lugubrious mood and then makes you scream soundlessly in spasms of hurt. A tear-jerker of a ballad that stabs you and pierces you right in the heart. Oh, heartbreak!

Poovaa nails it – “Karya” is a rollercoaster of a ride that gives you the chills of a love betrayed and that leaves you hanging by a thread.

This anthem is the dolorous outpouring of all her heartrending emotions. As you listen, you too can feel her dying a thousand deaths. That's how I feel anyway.

Brilliantly beautiful!

Second Chance

Poovaa sent this music video to me just now – another cover titled “Peluang Kedua” by Nabila Razali. It’s actually a 2020 song, a real tear-jerker.

She's fast becoming my favorite singer!

Methinks, it's a good song to listen to, more so when you're feeling sad. Poovaa really pours it all out. Mega melancholy.

If you have really listened to the mournful lyrics, you’ll know that they were calculated to evoke gut-wrenching despair and dejection. You'll experience a swirling stream of onrushing distress dousing and drenching you that you’ll want to curl up into a grief-stricken ball of agony and anguish.

"Sepi…
Menghukum diri kembali
Untuk mengalirkan air mata
Tanpa henti…
Lagi…

Sepi…
Menghasut diri kembali
Untuk memikirkan tentang kita
Tanpa henti…
Lagi…

Dan tiada
Salah darimu mengingatkanku
Bila ku tak sempurna
Engkau bisikkan ku yang paling sempurna
Di matamu hanya aku

Maaf andai kau terluka
Maaf ku tak sengaja
Tanpa sedar sakiti mu

Sesalku maaf
Kerna aku pun terluka
Pintaku hanya peluang kedua
Rasa cinta darimu

Dan tiada
Salah darimu mengingatkanku
Bila ku tak sempurna
Engkau bisikkan ku yang paling sempurna
Di matamu hanya aku

Dan andai terbuka hatimu
Ku di sini menunggu dan terus menunggu dirimu
Kembalilah sayang kepadaku

Maaf andai kau terluka
Maaf ku tak sengaja
Tanpa sedar sakiti mu

Sesalku maaf
Kerna aku pun terluka
Pintaku hanya peluang kedua
Rasa cinta darimu

Rasa cinta…
Rasa cinta darimu…
Huu…uuu…uuu…uuu…uuu"

The video was beautifully shot by GBAM and Rosli Mohamed of CST Production.

Poovaa

Poovaa (left) is a polished singer-songwriter.

When she brings forth a song, it's as if her voice immediately connects to her heart. And as she gently caresses the notes and strokes the lyrics, they spin into a seductive spiral of lilting melody that ripples with warmth and swells into delicate billows of choral delight.

I had featured Poovaa yesterday and I must insist you listen to her sing. This powerhouse did a brilliant cover of "Warisan"  and the beautiful number made me want to know more about her.

Her Facebook page has this description: “From planet Pooladoola, I'm a hydroelectric soul turbine and I'm here to rock your world…” Indeed, her words ring true – she has rocked my world.

Check out this short video clip of Poovaa, just so we get to know her a wee bit better:

And please give a listen to Poovaa’s very first Malay cover – Alyah’s 2015 hit “Sesal Separuh Nyawa”:

A towering talent gifted with a warbling voice that is haunting yet heart-stopping, and sensitive yet sublime. Poovaa is a joy to listen to.

Selamat Hari Merdeka Ke-63

Just what we need for Hari Merdeka!

“Warisan” was written by Syed Haron Syed Ahmad and performed by Sudirman Hj Arshad way back in 1982 – and now beautifully rendered by Poovaa (born Poovanesvary Sri Rama):

I’m sure Sudirman would have been really proud of this cover. A heartrending song that is deeply moving. I have goosebumps!

Poovaa says she hoped her version would spur love for the nation amongst all of us.

Selamat Hari Merdeka to all Malaysians!
