Reuse Your 1996 Calendar For 2024

Social media users have discovered that 2024’s dates identically align with those from 1996, prompting an outpouring of 1990s nostalgia online.

Just as in 2024, 1996 began on a Monday and was a leap year featuring 366 days. Now, many are dusting off old boxes or scouring eBay in the hopes of finding a calendar from that year to use all over again.

Meanwhile, others shared screenshots of 1996 heartthrobs and pinups to hang on the wall again this year.

“Everyone who still has a 1996 @kylieminogue calendar, just a heads up, you can use it again in 2024”, one fan of the Australian pop princess penned. “The days line up with the dates and everything”.

Another tweet, which was viewed more than 2 million times, read: “Just FYI, if you have this 1996 Jonathan Taylor Thomas calendar, the dates match up with 2024, so you can use it again”. Taylor Thomas, who was then aged 15 and starring in “Home Improvement”, was seen smiling in an accompanying photo of the calendar’s cover.

“Home Improvement” was one of 1996’s hottest shows – and the Jonathan Taylor Thomas calendar isn’t the only piece of ephemera to prove it. On eBay, a calendar from that year featuring fellow “Home Improvement” star Pamela Anderson is currently going for $149.99.

But if you don’t want to part with that much cash, a third “Home Improvement” star is now reproducing her original 1996 calendar for 2024 consumers.

Debbe Dunning (right), who played sexy “Tool Time” girl Heidi on the smash-hit sitcom, took to TikTok to announce the crafty move. The pinup is even signing the calendars, which retail for $100 a pop.

In the meantime, on X, another user shared a photo featuring the Muppets parodying “Seinfeld” in a 1996 calendar titled “Frogfeld”. That limited-edition item doesn’t appear to be up for sale on eBay.

However, these years aren’t the only two to feature the same days and dates. According to TimeAndDate.com, there are five other leap years in the current 200-year time frame that feature that exact calendar. They are 1940, 1968, 2052, 2080 and 2120.

So, if you want to save cash on a calendar in 2052, hold on to the one you buy this year. By that time, today’s heartthrobs and pinups will be seen just as nostalgically as the cast of “Home Improvement”.

Big Bird is a Communist

Sesame Street's Big Bird has long advocated for children's health, including vaccination campaigns going back to the 1970s.

But Covid which already claimed 776,000 lives in the US alone, has become a right-wing political death cult.

This time around, Big Bird tweeting that he'd gotten the jab received a response (below) so deranged that I just had to blink twice to make sure I am reading it correctly.

Bird Bird must be a tool of the Communist Party of China, LOL!

FYI, Wendy Rogers (left) is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate, representing Arizona Legislative District 6.

Elected in November 2020, she assumed office on January 11, 2021. She was a member of the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1996.

If you care to look at the number of Retweets, Quote Tweets and Likes, l suppose a good percentage of Americans are just as deranged too.

Muppet-ifying Disney's Haunted Mansion

If you’re familiar with Disneyland, then you’ll know about the Haunted Mansion, a ride attraction located at Disneyland Park (Disneyland Resort), Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World Resort), Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park (Paris) and Hong Kong Disneyland – although each premise differs in design. Riders go through a haunted mansion resided in by "999 happy haunts".

And if you love the Muppets as well as the Haunted Mansion, you’re in for a treat!

You’ll gonna dig the details in Disney's Halloween special “Muppets Haunted Mansion”. Muppets are cleverly incorporated into the attraction's art which then serves as the backdrop to the entire show.

Check out this much-too-short Disney Insider video where production designer Darcy Prevost shares a little on how she incorporated Muppets, "easter egg" style, into this "love letter to the Haunted Mansion":

And here’s the trailer for “Disney's Muppets Haunted Mansion”, available to stream now on Disney+:

It stars Will Arnett, Taraji P Henson, Yvette Nicole Brown, John Stamos, Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, and more.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas, everybody!!!

It's Christmas

I hope the US President can give his full attention to Joe Wong’s advice – the latter is telling Americans that building a wall didn’t work for China.

Give Wong a listen:

Donald Trump (left) should focus on building something that is more functional, more useful and more beneficial.

Like the US of A. He should spend more time governing the country rather than getting himself immersed in harebrained schemes.

But he just won't listen, will he?

If Trump is so obsessed with building a wall, then I suggest he builds one to shut himself up!

The Case of the Disappearing Pig

One can be forgiven if one thinks that the pig (left) is a loathed animal in Malaysia.

Not only is Sus scrofa domesticus ‘haram’ to Malay-Muslims but even pictures depicting the hog is objectionable – if the Malays are not offended, their Chinese apologists certainly are!

That perhaps explains why GSC Movies deleted the pig character from billboards advertising the Hong Kong action fantasy film ‘Journey to the West – The Monkey King 2’ which is due to be screened come Lunar New Year on February 08, 2016.

This particular movie is a loose comedic re-interpretation of the renowned novel Journey to the West – a Chinese mythological novel written in the sixteenth century during the Ming Dynasty.

Anyway, the original movie poster showed the monk Tang Sanzang and his three disciples Monkey King Sun Wukong, Sha Wujing and Zhu Bajie. Zhu Bajie, who is part human and part pig, is pictured on the left of the Monkey King in the poster but is missing on billboards in KL. See photo below:

The disappearance of the pig character from billboards has invited derision from netizens, most of whom agree that the removal of the character is foolishly ridiculous.

A sample of social media posts that had made fun of the issue:

GSC Movies were quick to step forward to point the finger at themselves. Chinese daily Oriental Daily News quoted their distribution manager Hou Xiu Chang as saying that they made the decision to remove the pig character based on “the business model and actor prominence” – an explanation which was absolutely nonsensical.

And then she showed herself to be a bigger buffoon when she insisted that the company did not have any hidden agenda in keeping Zhu Bajie off the promotional materials. Now, she has made Malaysians wonder.

I have always maintained that Malaysia is suffering from a stupidity epidemic. It is obvious that Hou has fallen victim to the same stupidity infection!

Actually, the pig is featured in my favorite movies! Check them out here:

For sure, Malaysians are becoming more and more hypersensitive. Believe me, things can get a lot worse in the next couple of years. Or can I be positive? Just two years, given that we will have GE14 in 2018?

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of the Pig shall arrive in 2019 – and what if BN are still in power? You never know what's going to happen.

I wouldn't be entirely shocked if Malaysian Chinese may be told to celebrate this particular Lunar New Year discreetly.

We can't have grunts and squeals and snorts and oinks reverberating around the country in case we antagonize some Malay-Muslims who fear their faith will be subverted.

The Break-up

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Photo credit: Kevin Winter/Getty

I have learned about the break-up since August 2015 but I was too distraught to talk about it then! I have got over it but I am still saddled with sadness.

I am talking about the uncoupling of that famous celebrity couple, Kermit and Miss Piggy. The couple – together for about 40 years after being introduced by mutual friend Jim Henson – had announced the split in Beverly Hills.

Here’s the statement that appears on both characters’ Facebook pages:

“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets” on Tuesdays 8 PM this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding”.

They did, however, promise they will continue to work together. That's really good to hear. For sure, life will go on for both of them – and they'll find new partners even. That’s Life!

I was in KL’s Bangsar for the KL Advanced Toastmasters meeting on Monday. I delivered a CC speech #4 titled "An Asian Beauty". A good speech, if I may say so myself. Anyway, I was voted Best Assignment Speaker.
