Grey to Green

Did you know that the Hulk was grey before he became green? 

The Incredible Hulk #1 by Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby tells of Dr. Bruce Banner being irrevocably changed when he was belted with gamma rays while saving a teenager from a bomb he helped create. 

Ànd Lee chose grey for the Hulk – a color that did not suggest any particular ethnic group. 

Only after seeing the first issue in print, Lee decided to change the Hulk from grey to green, starting with the second issue:

And did you also know that the #1 issue was auctioned for $490,000? 

ComicConnect.com, which handled the sale, said the comic book, which was sold to an anonymous buyer, is a rare object for collectors. The auctioned comic is made all the more rare by its 9.0 Very Fine/Near Mint quality grading. 

ComicConnect.com Chief Operating Officer Vincent Zurzolo said there are only seven copies of the same issue known to exist with higher ratings, and it is extremely rare to find one offered for sale. 

Zurzolo (left) highlighted that the sale represents the highest price ever paid for a copy of The Incredible Hulk #1 – and it is part of a growing trend in vintage comic book sales. It would appear that vintage comic book values just keep going up across the board. 

In fact, a copy of Action Comics #1, which contains the first appearance of Superman, set the world record for a comic book sale in April 2021 when it was auctioned for $3.25 million.

The Tony Blair petition is still collecting signatures. 

According to the Guardian UK, more than 700,000 people have now signed it calling for Blair’s knighthood, awarded by the Queen in the new year honours list to be rescinded. 

And Blair’s former defence secretary Geoff Hoon has come forward to claim that he was told to burn a memo from Lord Goldsmith, the attorney general that cast doubt on the legality of the Iraq war!
