Budget for NSC’s Training Program Gets Decimated

My previous post “NSC Forsake Low Wee Wern and 9 Others” published Monday refers. It’s not only the ten squash players who were dumped. 

It seems that Malaysia's National Sports Council had outed a total of 144 athletes! 

According to Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim (right), a former deputy youth and sports minister said he had raised concerns over the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ lack of funding for NSC’s training program. 

In a statement on Thursday, he revealed he had brought up the matter in Parliament – and the minister in charge gave an assurance that athletes would not be neglected. But just a month later, they were booted out. 

Sim even suggested it would be better to purge 10 ministers and deputy ministers to resolve the lack of funding issue. He declared: “[Their salaries] are more than enough to accommodate our athletes in their sports training program”. 

Wishful thinking, Sim! Of all people, you should know that Government ministers sit at the top of the food chain and that’s how it is in this country. 

I’m really happy for Luis Suarez. 

Yesterday, he (right), finally, scored in the forty-first minute as Atlético Madrid blitzed Rayo Majadahonda by five goals to reach the Copa del Rey last-16. 

The Uruguay international had gone ten games without a goal for club and country, a drought that stretched back to the La Liga game on November 07 where Atleti drew 3-3 with Valencia.
