I reckon that Fakhri and Ong’s book is worth chewing and digesting with diligence and attention. 

 

As a book introducing public speaking skills, the book presents public speaking methods like “Designing the Airplane While It’s Flying”, techniques like “Reverse Engineer Your Speech”, and other useful tips with concise, plain and powerful language. 

 

Each section begins with a story from real life, which makes the narration more convincing and engaging. Furthermore, there are many quotes from other people to solidify the ideas. For example, the advice from Adhwa is very inspiring: “Just do it, even if you struggle. In adversity, you will find success”. 

 

Apart from the rich content, the layout of the book makes the book even better and clearer. The capitalised words for important components of speech, bold fonts for steps of overcoming glossophobia, and short organisation of paragraphs facilitate the understanding of key points from the readers’ part. 

 

Some novel ideas for delivering public speaking are provided in the book, too. The craft of a speech with a Closing-Body-Opening sequence and the interesting tip of using a plastic cockroach as a prop to grab the audience’s attention are all creative and enlightening. 

 

Besides, several chapters provide an “Action” section to have interaction with readers. This interactive part adds the property of participation to the book. If there are more guidelines and examples in the book as to how to put the methods, techniques and steps into action, it would serve as a better guide for those who want to improve their public speaking skills.
