But Miss Universe Thailand 2022, Anna Sueangam-Iam (left), decided to up it a notch by paying a moving tribute to her parents' sacrifices in her choice of evening wear for the Miss Universe 2022 preliminary competition.
She turned heads in a shimmering, full-length metallic gown – called the "Hidden Precious Diamond Dress" – that screamed couture but was in fact an upcycled ensemble, tailored using discarded and recycled materials. It is a testament to the fact that items that are widely considered useless have their own innate beauty and value.
And it exudes luxury too as it has Swarovski Created Diamond among the aluminum pull-tabs from used soda cans.
And the halter-neck gown with a deep neckline and bold, thigh-high front slit shows off the beauty's figure to perfection.
Designed by Manirat, the unique gown even got her dubbed "the garbage beauty queen" but she has taken it in her stride, reportedly saying that one need not be stuck in the murky surroundings one is born in as we have the power to change our life for the better.
