Nine Tonnes of Rubbish

Malaysians show once again they are hard-core litterbugs.

On the very first day of 2020, KL streets are choked with rubbish after the New Year revelry. And it didn’t help that trash bins were overflowing.

Alam Flora CEO Zain Hassan said his company collected at least nine tonnes of garbage from major areas in the city. Based on their estimates, the nine tonnes were from just 3 areas, Dataran Merdeka (2.5 tonnes), KLCC (four tonnes) and Bukit Bintang (2.5 tonnes) – where Malaysians congregate to herald in the new year.

The clean-up process took eight hours and saw the deployment of a hundred personnel and ten units of compactors and cleaning machines.

Malaysians simply lack civic consciousness; they don’t care!

We should be mindful of our actions and how they impact the environment.

And we can start by changing the world, one person at a time. Start with you and I.

Let's endeavor to be a better citizen, a better person, a better version of oneself!
