As of March 18, 2026, the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran has officially entered its 18th day. And yet, seven days earlier, Donald Trump declared he had "won in the first hour"!
The conflict which began on February 28 has quickly escalated into a significant regional crisis involving multiple nations and created severe economic impacts. Trump's gloating was as hollow as the armor of a ghost.
According to Trump’s top economic adviser, Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council, the US has already spent $12 billion. He gave the figure on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday saying it is the latest he’s been briefed on so far.
The costs are largely driven by the high rate of munitions used in "Operation Epic Fury", with some estimates suggesting the first 100 hours alone cost $3.7 billion.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, meanwhile, issued a warning that the concentrated and fierce bombardment of enemy Iran is “about to surge dramatically”, suggesting the bill is heading in one direction only.
It would appear that the US, specifically Trump has no clear strategy on Iran. Worse, the goalposts keep moving ever so often. I just think that the Orange Man wants to obliterate the country, no matter the cost.
More importantly, it has to be pointed out that actually, this war is never about America. Trump is waging war for Israel.
