The 47th US President, during his 2026 State of the Union address on February 24 – which ran for 107 minutes, making it the longest such speech in modern history – struck a triumphant tone as he proudly declares:
Whether Americans believe it or not, the speech underscored uncomfortable political realities for Donald Trump, laying bare the vulnerabilities of a president who has relied on a rushing flood of executive orders, unilateral actions and emergency declarations to build his agenda.
Liverpool hosted West Ham United in the Premier League with the chance to move into the top five, temporarily at least. And they performed admirably well as the Reds flexed their new-found set-piece prowess and in the process, defied the xG to thrash Hammers 5-2 at Anfield, though it was far from a one-sided game.
First-half goals by Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister (5, 24, 43) put the Reds into a commanding lead at the break, before Hammers pulled one back in the opening stages of the second half. Cody Gakpo then made it 4-1 in the 70th minute to restore his side's 3-goal cushion, prior to Hammers again reducing their arrears five minutes later. And the scoring was rounded off in the 82nd minute when Jeremie Frimpong forced the visitors to concede an own goal.
Liverpool moved level on 48 points with fourth-placed Manchester United and even better, reduced their goal difference disadvantage to only one goal.
Meanwhile, north of the border, the Scottish leaders as well as the 139-year-old Motherwell Fitbaw an Athletic Club secured three points as Hearts beat Aberdeen 1-0 and Motherwell thumped Dundee United by 2 goals to nil.
Meaning, the Jambos have now amassed a total of 63 points and the Steelmen are 10 points behind with Rangers and Celtic sandwiched between these two sides, 3 points and one point ahead of Motherwell respectively. (Celtic have a game in hand though).
