Two Friends I Met on Friday

I made two wonderful friends on Friday. The first was my meeting with Aspan Alias and what was great was that I even managed to talk to him about Malaysian politics for nearly 90 minutes. As you know I read many blogs but his blog is one of those few that I follow and read regularly. Besides he writes in Malay and I had also wanted to brush up on my national language. I don’t intend to overly praise him but I will not deny that I have found his writings to be insightful, illuminating and incisive. Certainly, he knows the politics in this country. After all, he was an UMNO member for many years before he moved to DAP in 2012. And I made sure that when the opportunity presented itself, I took photos of us together. Here are the pictures:

The second friend was Amrut whom I met at the Cobra Club in Petaling Jaya. I must thank Karen (i.e. Kirenjit Kaur) for introducing me Amrut – it’s actually a prestigious whisky from an unlikely country called India. Don't look down on this drink just because it is from India. It is really superb! This version is called Amrut Fusion Single Malt and it derives its name from the fact that 25% peated Scottish malt and 75% unpeated Indian malt are first mashed and distilled separately and later married in Bourbon casks. And for your information, the barley is grown in the foothills of the Himalayas and the whisky is matured in Bangalore. Did you know that prominent whisky expert Jim Murray ranked this 'aqua vitae' or the 'water of life' as the drink is fondly called, the world's third best in the 2010 edition of the Whisky Bible?

My impressions are that it is a bit spicy and the nose and palate are bright and vivid. Of course I am no expert but what the heck, I love it!
