Bersih 3.0 Elsewhere in Malaysia

Bersih 3.0 was of course bigger than ever! And it awakened even more Malaysians all over the country – not just in Kuala Lumpur.

In Penang, at least 7,000 people converged at the Esplanade:


Likewise, there were also rallies in other cities (e.g. Kuantan and Seremban) and major towns (e.g. Taiping, Muar and Tawau) and even the smaller towns (e.g. Bukit Merah and Penampang) supported Bersih 3.0.

In Ipoh, five thousand people assembled at the Polo Ground:

In Malacca, 5,000 locals rooted for Bersih and marched to Dataran Pahlawan:

In Johor Bahru, some three thousand protestors marched to Dataran MBJB:

In Kuching, the location was the Old Courthouse:

In Sibu, according to the Borneo Post, six hundred townsfolk took to the Chuan Corridor at the West Wing of Sibu Town Square for a sit-down protest:

In Miri, the location was the Miri Resident Office carpark:

In Kota Kinabalu, more than two thousand came for the Bersih 3.0 rally at Padang Merdeka:

In all these places, the police were generally nonobtructive although in one or two venues, they did try to disrupt it. Overall, these protests went on without a glitch. So readers can now understand that in Kuala Lumpur, DBKL and the Police must be held responsible for the calamitous mayhem that ensued at the Bersih 3.0 rally because they had a malicious intent, which was to precipitate combative violence to demonise the Bersih 3.0 organizers as well as the opposition parties whose members came out to support it. For the rest of us – the ordinary folks – who were there at Bersih 3.0 in KL, we know that it was peaceful and without hostility until the powers-that-be decided to incite, inflame and provoke!
