Six State Elections in Malaysia

In Malaysia, elections for six states, i.e., Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan were held yesterday as their terms expire this year. 

 

(FYI, I voted in N31: Subang Jaya, DUN Selangor).

 

And the final result – status quo as predicted. PH-BN retain Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) held onto Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

 

PH and BN managed to win more than two-thirds majority in Penang (PH-BN won a combined 29 of the 40 seats, while PN won 11) and Negeri Sembilan (PH-BN collectively won 31 of the 36 seats, while PN won only five) but were denied two-thirds majority in Selangor (PH-BN could only secure 34 out of the 56 seats, as PN won 22). 

 

In Kedah, PN won 33 of 36 seats there, while PH won the remaining three. In Kelantan, PN won 43 of the 45 seats there, while PH and BN won one seat each. And PN grabbed all 32 seats in Terengganu.
