Certainly, it was a remarkable career comeback. Once the star of big releases like “George of the Jungle” and the action-packed “Mummy” trilogy, Fraser had endured a decade in the Hollywood wilderness before winning over Academy voters with his portrayal of a reclusive and morbidly obese English teacher who eats compulsively as he is tormented by grief.
The Oscar was for his role in “The Whale”, which appropriately tells its own story of redemption, that brought him back to star status, with Hollywood flocking to praise his vulnerable and heartfelt performance.
As for the best actress award, sadly, Cate Blanchett didn’t win – and I am disappointed.
