Ukraine Wants More Military Aid and More Sanctions

A ho-hum Ukrainian script is being re-read again!

At the Group of Seven foreign ministers’ meeting (May 12-14) held in Weissenhaus in northern Germany, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba (right) had on Friday, appealed to G-7 nations to provide more military aid and support his country in the fight against Russia, including putting more pressure on Moscow by stepping up sanctions and seizing Russian sovereign assets to pay for rebuilding Ukraine. 

The grouping, which comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the United States, reiterated their stance that the territories seized by Russian forces need to be returned to Ukraine. 

"We will never recognize borders Russia has attempted to change by military aggression", they insisted. 

China was also singled out. On Saturday, the G-7 called on the country not to help Russia, including by undermining international sanctions or justifying Moscow's actions in Ukraine. 

They urged China "to desist from engaging in information manipulation, disinformation and other means to legitimize Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine". 

Western powers are forever depicting Russia and China in a bad light! But in truth, the blame should be put squarely on the doorsteps of the US and NATO because they were the parties that sowed the seeds of the conflagration in the first place!

Oh, in case you miss this but Ukraine’s Kuleba in an interview with Al Jazeera’s Diplomatic Editor James Bays over the weekend boldly proclaimed: “100% we will win, and Russia will be defeated”! 

Y-A-W-N!!!!

Eyebrows were raised when Reuters tweeted out an image of Ukrainian soldiers in a story about the conflict in Ukraine. 

“Ukraine says it has repelled Russian incursion in Sumy region” reads the tweet, which is accompanied by a photo of soldiers wearing paintball masks and wielding paintball guns! 

[Note: Based on what Dmytro Zhyvytsky, governor of the Suny region in north-eastern Ukraine wrote on the Telegram messaging app on Monday that a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group had entered Ukrainian territory under the cover of mortar shells, grenades and machine gun fire but retreated after the border guards fought back].

I won’t dismiss it outright because maybe, it is true! Ukraine is regularly pleading for arms to fight the Russians. 

And until more weapons reach the country, Reuters are implying that Ukraine is resigned to handing out paintball guns to its soldiers instead! At least, they can pretend to fight the Russians!
