America is Really Sick

On December 06, 2021, I had put out a post titled “America is Sick” – "just days after four teenagers were killed in a deadly rampage at Oxford High School in a Detroit exurb in Michigan, USA. Six other students and a teacher were wounded". 

On Tuesday, another school mass shooting unfolded. A teenage gunman identified as Salvador Ramos killed at least 19 children and two teachers after storming into Robb Elementary School – which teaches mostly Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students – in Uvalde, about 129km (80 miles) west of San Antonio, Texas, in the latest mass shooting in the United States and the deadliest US school shooting in a decade. 

The gunman was killed in a shootout.

The school had 535 students enrolled in the academic year that ended in 2021. And many of the shooting victims were just 10 years old. 

According to the Washington Post, Ramos bought his weapon after his 18th birthday, which was on May 16. 

Al Jazeera columnist, Andrew Mitrovica wrote: “So, in the sad days ahead, America and the rest of us will watch and listen to the same pantomime we have watched and listened to before. The same scenes. The same grief. The same fury. The same vigils. The same funerals. The same questions. The same answers. The same politicians spouting the same mephitic excuses. Guns don’t kill children; people do. A bad guy with a gun can only be stopped by a good guy with a gun. A merciful God is preparing, once more, to welcome his bullet-ridden children to a better, kinder place”. 

A country has to be really sick if it values its guns more than it values its citizens’ lives.

Anyway, for Americans, life will go on. And I expect school shootings will continue!
