Malaysia's Covid Numbers are Still Very High

Malaysia's Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (left) is spewing nonsense again.

He was quoted to have said that daily Covid-19 cases have dropped since the lockdown – and yet, he pointed out that the number of patients in ICU has not shown any significant decline in the last two weeks.

Of course, he blamed it on the the new variants. According to him, a total of 924 patients are in ICU as at yesterday, with 453 needing respiratory assistance.

As far as Malaysians are concerned, the Covid caseload is still very high, fatalities are in double-digit and ICU wards are overwhelmed

Port Dickson MP Anwar Ibrahim rightly raised the issue of data inconsistencies surrounding the actual Covid-19 situation in Malaysia and pressed for an overhaul of mitigation strategies.

He questioned the legitimacy of Covid numbers, asserting that a 45 percent drop in daily case numbers reported since May 29 was followed by a similar 44 percent drop in testing capacity. A neat trick, if you ask me!

I too contest Dr Noor Hisham’s statement that daily infections are in decline! Just check out the numbers over the last 4 days:

And Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh had questioned the rationale of allowing factories to operate during a total lockdown even as a majority of Covid-19 clusters are coming from these locations.

In fact, the Health D-G disclosed on Monday that a total of 1,328 workplace clusters have been detected, involving 147,040 cases. And over 95,000 cases were linked to factories.

BTW, Singapore's MOH have reported that a Malaysian who had completed his vaccination regime in February was among the 18 new Covid-19 cases reported in that country on Saturday. So, don't think that Covid jabs will protect you 100%.

Anyway, I don't believe MCO 3.0 is helping because things are not getting better. We’re still in deep shit, alright!
