132 Million Cases and GMP Certification for Sinopharm

Covid-19 is on the upsurge, notably in Europe and South America. 

And Canada has amassed one million cases since the pandemic began.

Still, India gets the spotlight when yesterday, the country recorded 103,558 new coronavirus infections, the highest single-day rise so far this year. And it is only the second country after the US to register more than 100,000 new cases in a day. 

The total global caseload has now reached 132 million. 

With a Chinese Covid-19 vaccine receiving the first Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificate issued by the Hungarian National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYEI), Chinese jabs are reportedly a step closer to becoming a global public good. 

The China National Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. (Sinopharm) said on Saturday that their Covid-19 vaccine is the first to receive the certification. 

Besides enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese vaccines in Europe, vaccine experts told China’s Global Times that this recognition will boost small European countries' confidence in Chinese vaccines as the continent struggles with the low roll-out and uneven distribution of vaccines. More than 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Sinopharm have been supplied around the world. At least, China is walking the talk.
