Orlando's Guardian Angels

A 29 year-old gunman opened fire at the Pulse gay club in Orlando, Florida, USA on June 12, 2016. At that time, there were more than three hundred patrons inside.

Omar Mateeb was shot dead by police – but not before killing 49 people and wounding 53. It was the deadliest shooting in modern US history.

And at the Saturday funeral service for Christopher Leinonen, one of the said victims – Westboro Baptist 'Church' (their website is members had turned up to stage an anti-gay demonstration.

But these homophobic protestors were thwarted by guardian angels!

The latter were Orlando citizens who wore huge white linen wings – made by volunteers from the Orlando Shakespeare Theater’s costume and set departments – which they used to physically block the agitators from disrupting the funeral proceedings.

Many people attended these funerals in order to show support for the gay community, carrying banners and wearing apparel with messages of love on them.

[Note: The wings first appeared at the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year old gay student who was pistol-whipped up to 18 times on the head, kicked between the legs, tied to a fence in freezing conditions, set on fire, and left to die near Laramie, Wyoming on the night of October 06, 1998].
