In Malaysia, pigs (Genus: Sus) are not allowed to show their faces! They must be covered up – maybe they should wear a hijab! Or else, they will be blacked out.
On Wednesday, The New York Times ran a story by Stephanie Strom titled "Demand Grows for Hogs That Are Raised Humanely Outdoors," a write-up about the growth of the pasture-raised pork industry in the USA.
When the piece appeared in the International New York Times on newsstands in Malaysia, however, it looked a little different. The pigs' faces had been concealed behind black ink:
When the story continued inside the newspaper, another pig was blacked out too:
According to the Malay Mail, the decision to black out the faces was made by printers of the Malaysian edition of the newspaper, KHL Printing Co. “We’ve been doing this for some time. We block out pictures of nudes and things like these. This is a Muslim country,” a representative of the printers told the publication.
It is obvious that somebody in Malaysia subscribes to this notion that pigs are not one of God’s creatures!
But then again, I am making an assumption based on the remarks above.
Still, I strongly disagree with what they are doing! How can they just censor pig faces? They should black out the whole effing pig! How can they try to corrupt Muslim minds by showing nudity?
What is this country coming to?
There was a time not too long ago – i.e. BM or Before Mahathir – when Malaysians can all be BFF! Today, Malaysian society is fragmenting. [For those who still don’t know what BFF is, it is Best Friends Forever!]
