Balloon-gate is a continuing saga!
On Sunday, US president, Joe Biden, ordered US fighter planes to eliminate a fourth flying object over Lake Huron in Michigan, USA. It was shot down over the lake “out of an abundance of caution”, an administration official said.
The said thingy was an octagonal structure with strings hanging from it, but with no evident payload. It was not deemed to be a military threat to anything on the ground, but could have posed a hazard to civil aviation because it was flying at about 20,000 feet (6,000 meters), officials said.
The US has since placed economic restrictions on six Chinese entities it said are linked to China’s aerospace programs.
And on Monday, China too has accused the United States of flying high-altitude balloons over its territory without permission more than 10 times in the past year. Of course, the latter denies it.
I guess the US is getting tired of just talking about Ukraine where it is facing defeat. Shooting flying objects is so much fun to the Americans!
Liverpool have been in poor form – but yesterday, they turned the tables on Everton and triumphed 2-0. The Reds needed that result and they got it, thank God!
The Blues had actually kept Liverpool at arm's length before they were caught by a devastating counter-attack after 36 minutes – an Everton defender’s header hit the post at one end before Darwin Nunez raced clear, squaring for Mohamed Salah to take advantage of the goalkeeper's poor positioning with a simple finish.
The Reds doubled the lead with another clinic al break, when Cody Gakpo tapped into an empty net at the back-post from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross in the forty-ninth minute.
From then on, Liverpool were in cruise control, with Everton not able to lay a glove on them as they set up camp in the opposing half. Until the final whistle.
A victory, yes – but I wouldn’t read too much into it because this is just one game.
Still, Liverpool's win is their first in the Premier League in 2023! At last! Massive relief!
