Bread Transforms Into Bacon

I saw this YouTube video on Boing Boing this morning – where vegan chef Sauce Stache shares his take on making bacon from bread.

Inspired by a TikTok video by RJ the Magician, he wanted to see if the faux bacon he showed off really tasted like the smoky meat.

The recipe involves soaking thin strips of bread in sauces and spices and then pan-frying them. Of course, you’ve just traded fats and protein for fats and carbs.

His verdict: “WOW is it good... like wildly good. This is in the top 3 vegan bacons now!!”

Instructions:

  • Take five slices of white bread, remove the crusts, roll them flat with a rolling pin.
  • Cut into bacon-sized strips (3 per slice).
  • Make a sauce from a quarter-cup of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 of nutritional yeast, 2 tablespoons of mushroom seasoning, 1 tablespoon liquid smoke, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, ¼-teaspoon black pepper.
  • Add strips and let them soak for about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully remove and fry in an oiled skillet over medium heat.

I’m not a vegan – but whatever, this bread “bacon” looks interesting!

I'm just saying out loud. A bacon used to be just bacon. Then we have beef bacon. And now, it's bread bacon. I wonder what's next!

After three long months, the EPL campaign is upon us.

Yesterday, Liverpool squared up for their maiden match against Norwich City. Their excellent record against the latter continued, and, of course, the last time the Reds played the Canaries on the first game of the season, they went on to lift a first ever Premier League title.

Anyway, Liverpool won 3-0, thanks to a goal each from Portugal forward Diogo Jota (26), substitute Roberto Firmino (65) and the brilliant Mohamed Salah (74). You should know too that the Egyptian provided assists for both Jota and Firmino.

And they played in front of a full house for the first time since Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final defeat of 2020!

Liverpool finished third in the Premier League last season, 17 points behind champions Manchester City after their campaign was derailed by a shocking slump as they struggled to cope with their defensive injuries. I’m confident we won’t see a repeat of this!
