Fake Ferraris and Lookalike Lamborghinis

Everybody knows that China is notorious for its fake products including the real "fakes".

The vast array of counterfeit and bootlegged consumer products and knockoff brands is mind-boggling. And for good measure, it even has a fair share of fake retail operations and illegitimate theme parks.

But don’t knock only China.

I’m positive other countries, too, produce their own versions of products that copy the genuine ones. 

Brazil is one case in point.

Police in Brazil have shut down a clandestine factory that was producing fake Ferraris and lookalike Lamborghinis. 

A father and son who owned the workshop in Itajai, a port city in southeast Brazil have been arrested on industrial property charges. Police said the cars were being offered on social media for $45,000 to $60,000 – a fraction of the price of the real thing.

Officials didn’t say what sort of parts were used to build the vehicles, but they distributed photos showing sleek bodies, as well as badges and accessories emblazoned with the Italian brands. 

Monday’s raid followed a complaint by the companies that owned the said brands. 

Eight partially finished vehicles were seized in the raid, and police said they are investigating how many were made. 

Clearly, creativity knows no bounds.
