At the 2025 World Durian Championship, the fan favorite clinched the prestigious “King of Kings” title, reaffirming its status as the ultimate durian.
Officiated by the country's Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu and held in Bangi, Selangor, this year’s event brought together 96 of the best durians from all over Malaysia, from Penang to Johor, Pahang to Kedah. But in the end, it was the creamy, golden Musang King from We Go Farm that stole the show, according to World of Buzz published July 12.
Even with strong contenders like Tupai King (D214), Tekka (D160), Kim Hong (D198) and Golden Bun (D13) in the mix, Musang King’s rich, complex flavour and buttery texture were just too good to beat.
The judges, a mix of food experts, chefs, and durian aficionados, were looking for the perfect balance of sweetness, bitterness, aroma, and that signature durian creaminess which the Musang King delivered.
In a Facebook post on the same day, the Minister shared, “Malaysian durians are no ordinary fruit. Names like Musang King, Black Thorn, and D24 are not only popular locally, but also adored by durian lovers from all over the world".
I have a question. If this was indeed a World Durian Championship, how come only Malaysian durians were in contention? What about durians from Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam?
