Malaysia is SE Asia's No. 1 Food Waster

Malaysia generates 2,921,577 tonnes of household food waste!

 

Based on data collected from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Malaysia leads Southeast Asia in household food waste per capita, as reported by @seasia.stats. 

 

The Food Waste Index takes into account all food waste, including both edible and inedible portions of food items. According to World Population Review, the data reveals that Malaysia generates 91kg of household food waste per capita annually as of 2021.

 

Malaysia really has to tackle its staggering food waste problem.

And yet, the fact that we have soup kitchens (e.g. PERTIWI Soup Kitchen, Kechara Soup Kitchen, Dapur Jalanan Kuala Lumpur and Street Feeders Of KL) indicate there are impoverished Malaysians who would go to bed hungry if not for these NGOs.

 

Therefore, the government must prioritise food loss and waste in order to not only safeguard food security and reduce food loss but equally important, to ensure disadvantaged and hard-up Malaysians have access to enough food on a daily basis.

 

I'm sure this is not a problem unique to Malaysia. In fact, I just read that half of Americans are struggling to afford their rising housing costs, and the financial squeeze is so severe for many that over one in five skip meals to get by, according to a survey, commissioned by Seattle-based real estate brokerage Redfin and released on Friday.

 

Celtic and Rangers met today in an Old Firm thriller where both teams fought to a 3-3 draw.

 

An attempted clearance by the Rangers captain cannoned off Daizen Maeda and thundered past the goalie and into the far corner of the net to give Celtic an incredible lead in 21 seconds. Matt O'Riley then doubled the advantage in the thirty-fourth minute after the referee awarded a penalty for a handball following a VAR check.

Rangers replied back with two goals in the 55th and 86th minutes but Adam Idah got Celtic back in front almost immediately as he suckered in a low shot from just inside the penalty area and it went under the diving goalkeeper. But Rangers pressed forward again and found the equalizer in stoppage time in spectacular fashion.

 

Celtic remain one point ahead of their rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but Rangers will have a chance to move ahead quickly as they play their game in hand against Dundee on Wednesday.
