World Speakers’ Coalition Kuala Lumpur made a return to one of our favorite haunts for the third time. Decanter in Section 17, PJ.
And it’s really pleasing to note that all our members, save one attended the meeting yesterday. On top of that, we welcomed 4 guests. This was our biggest gathering thus far.
Alan Chew was our host and “No Victory Without Sacrifice” was a theme he had decided upon. It painted a picture of triumph – not necessarily of war – but of the challenges that we are confronted with and that we have striven to overcome them.
And every one of us who spoke had a narrative that mirrored our own journey through this massive canvas we call life.
Verily, the four words that make up the theme are intently true – it speaks of our own life as we experience it, personal and intimate.
As I end this post, I reckon it's pertinent to share an extract of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Citizen in the Republic” speech that he made in 1910: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat”.
And Steffi Chuah becomes our tenth member.
