Ne Zha 2 is 5th Highest-grossing Film Globally

"Ne Zha 2", the Chinese animated blockbuster, has surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ worldwide total of $2.07 billion, securing its place as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office. 

Earlier, it surpassed the lifetime earnings of Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and also overtaken Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). 

In fact, it trails only 1997's Titanic ($2.2 billion), 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion), 2019's Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), and 2009's Avatar ($2.9 billion) on the all-time chart. 

Over the last decade, the Chinese marketplace has evolved into a behemoth. A theatrical ecosystem that relied consistently on Hollywood movies is now mostly self-sustaining. Barring the odd Hollywood hit, China now produces its own blockbusters. 

It's worth highlighting Ne Zha 2’s box office milestones: The film is now the highest-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Additionally, it holds the title of the highest-grossing non-English-language film ever, being the first film in the category to cross both the $1 billion and $2 billion milestones. 

The film also stands as the highest-grossing release of 2025 so far, further flexing the strength of Chinese cinema on the world stage. Pinkvilla's estimate suggests Ne Zha 2 has the potential to hold the crown when we wrap up this year’s box office rankings around the same time next year. If the forecast manifests, the film would have bested many of 2025's highly anticipated releases, like Mission: Impossible 8 and Avatar 3.
