Beijing Roses

This month in Beijing, China, the roses are in full bloom. Along the main ring road of China’s sprawling capital city as well as elsewhere, Chinese rose flowers (Scientific name: Rosa chinensis) bloom, adding vibrant colors to its streets.

 

You can see their beauty from early summer to late autumn. With over twenty years of continuous planting and maintenance, the Beijing roses have become a dazzling feature, serving as a vibrant city business card.

FYI, the Chinese rose (Chinese: 月季; pinyin: yuèjì) is native to south-west China and can grow up to 1 to 2m tall with single, semi-double or double flowers with red, white, pink or purple petals – it can grow in hedges or form thickets. China roses were cultivated in their native lands before the Europeans discovered them.
