Shuhaimi Baba's Deception

Shuhaimi Baba (left) of the contentious Tanda Putera film, which has upset the opposition, now admits it is a fictional account of events surrounding the May 13 racial riots. She has finally admitted that her film is merely an interpretation of historical events. And so, she incorporated suspect scenes to spice up what is a long-drawn-out movie.

One particular scene had a character urinating at a flagpole in front of the house of a former Selangor menteri besar and which purportedly portrayed a young Lim Kit Siang from the opposition DAP.  She told The Malaysian Insider on Friday: That incident did happen but no one could identify who was the one who did it”. 

Doesn’t this illustrate her malevolent nature? Interestingly she had also admitted: “It is tough for me to throw away scenes that are called sensitive. If I have to follow the opinions of everyone then the first 20 minutes of the film depicting incidents of 13 May would not even be there. So I have to defend my work”! It is obvious she had intentionally wanted to make her film disputatious – in order to invoke emotions, which in turn will help to boost ticket sales! A cheap trick to stir controversy by an inept director. 

Suhaimi’s admission is a comedown from her stand at the film’s premiere this week where she asked the public to give the film a chance since it is about the nation’s history based on “true stories".

The film is set to start its run in local cinemas on August 29, 2013. 

Celtic was very lucky to force a 2-2 draw and thereby preventing leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle, so often a thorn in Celtic's side, recording another victory in Glasgow. Caley Thistle, the last Scottish team to win at the home of the Scottish champions in November, went ahead through Aaron Doran's 25-yard drive in the 14th minute and then Richie Foran forced in a second after 35 minutes. But in the forty-second minute, Celtic’s Charlie Mulgrew pounced on a cut-back from Emilio Izaguirre to toe-poke past goalie Dean Brill. And in the eighty-second minute, Adam Matthews fired home a second, but Celtic's run of nine straight home wins ended.

Daniel Sturridge was the match-winner as he gave Liverpool a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday. Sturridge, who started his youth career with Villa, received the ball at the edge of the area in the 21st minute, rounded goalkeeper Brad Guzan and maintained his balance to poke the ball into the roof of the net with two Villa defenders rushing back to block the shot. 

This was the first time Liverpool have won their opening two league games in five years. A good sign.
