While some may choose to put their change in a piggy bank, others use it as the material for marvellous creations.
The 22-year-old American (left) is a TikTok sensation known for posting cosplay and sewing videos. For this imaginative project, Shay collected hundreds of the coppery one-cent pieces, which she then cleaned thoroughly, and drilled holes in along the sides. This allowed her to sew these copper pieces together and create the bodice and skirt of the dress.
Shay modelled the completed dress in her Instagram photos, showing off the lustrous effect of the coins in sunlight.
From far away, the 2,652 pennies ($26.52) blend together to create a sequined effect. However, when you look at the frock up close you can admire the meticulous detail Shay put into weaving all of the coins together in a neat chainmail pattern.
The statement dress could easily pass as a 1920s-era costume from The Great Gatsby.
