Government Incompetence

It seems that Nanyang Siang Pau (and reproduced in The Sun today, p 5) has revealed that if the government starts to reduce the subsidies this year, according to the proposed five-year subsidy rationalization roadmap, the living expenses for the average household are expected to soar by at least 20% in three years. Moreover, this estimate has not taken into account the resulting inflation, such as hikes in prices of goods, food items and service charges. And guess what? Once our farsighted government “passes on” the additional expenses to the Malaysian consumer, the hardest hit will be the middle class. You and me. If you ask me, it’s going to be a real bummer! I blame the BN government for their blasted incompetence in managing this country.

In my May 26 posting, I mentioned about this Hasmy Agam fella who said our Malaysian diplomats abroad have a poor command of English so much so that they are too shy to mix around. In a letter published in The Sun today, he claims he was quoted “not entirely correctly and out of context”. But three sentences later, he admits “that those linguistic and ‘soft skills’ deficiencies referred to… are systemic in character, (and) not just confined to Wisma Putra” (p 12). Sounds like doublespeak to me! Sometimes, I wish people speak English as we know it, not as they think they know! Perhaps, he is wishing his mouth has a backspace key!?!
