Chinese Society Wholly Embracing Technology

If China were able to build a time machine and send one of its 1.4 billion citizens back to the late 1970s, the person would be stuck in a kerosene lamp-powered life without any electronics. Communication with family and friends would rely on mail carriers. Long-distance travel would mean standing in slow-moving trains for hours or days. Grocery shopping would require different stamps for different items. 

 

Those are just some aspects of what the life of an ordinary Chinese person looked like before China turned to innovation-driven strategies to power xiaokang* society.

Today, China is becoming synonymous with technology. Here are two everyday examples to illustrate the country’s advances that have completely changed the most basic aspects of life that many of its citizens have taken for granted. 

 

Example 1. If we combine AI, IoT and/or mobile payments and put these innovations on a traditional shopping cart, we get an incredible seamless experience when we are grocery shopping:

 

Example 2. Traditional methods of payments such as cash or credit cards will soon become relics of the past. Now, things like WeChat pay or face recognition have become part of daily life here in China:
