Visitor numbers to the Tower of London are down by around 50 per cent compared to a year ago – a drop that is thought to have been mirrored across other attractions.

Where is everybody? Besides those already at the Olympics, the once busy streets of London are deserted and resemble a ghost town. Whether tourist attractions or the malls, visitor numbers are significantly down.
Tourism industry leaders blame the Government and Transport for London for exaggerating the difficulties of getting around during the Olympics. In fact, a Government edict that civil servants would be allowed to work from home for weeks on end to escape the chaos that never arrived fuelled the sense of panic.
The harsh reality is that the dire warnings of chaos on the Tube system and gridlock on the roads have backfired, leaving many businesses seriously out of pocket. And I am sure the shops, restaurants and hotels after increasing their prices so they could make a killing are finding out that they will not profit after all.
On Thursday, the Sunway University Toastmasters Club had their seventh meeting. As expected, it was an engaging event with good speeches and evaluations. Chan Siew Peng as Table Topics Master wisely made full use of her 15 minutes by maximizing the number of speakers for the Table Topics session – i.e. seven speakers in total. By the way, Lim Lay Kun who was the General Evaluator for this meeting gave out the Charter certificates to the members. A proud moment for Toastmasters of Sunway University (and affiliated institutions). Again, it has been an enjoyable evening and this meeting earns an 8 out of a 10 score.
The only disappointment was the non-appearance of Area B3 Governor who had earlier indicated that she would be coming for the meeting but instead was a no-show. It's okay if she wasn't interested to attend but why make the commitment in the first place? Also, she should have the courtesy to let us know she has no intention of attending our meeting. Some Toastmasters are just plain inconsiderate and impolite.
