Three High Court judges at West Kowloon Court in Hong Kong today sentenced the instigator of anti-China riots, Jimmy Lai Chee-ying to 20 years’ imprisonment.
The 78-year-old former media proprietor (right) was convicted of two conspiracy counts of collusion with foreign forces under the National Security Law and one count of conspiracy to publish and distribute seditious publications under local legislation.
“The court have affirmed the gravity of his crime, showing that he’s the mastermind and leader behind the scene”, said Steve Li, chief superintendent of the national security department.
The court also imposed sentences on six former senior executives of Apple Daily, three associated companies and two activists during the hour-long hearing. The remaining defendants received the following sentences i.e., Chan Tsz-wah was jailed for 6 years and 3 months; Andy Li for 7 years and 3 months; Cheung Kim-hung for 6 years and 9 months; Chan Pui-man for 7 years; Law Wai-kwong for 10 years; Lam Man-chung for 10 years; Fung Wai-kwong for 10 years; and Yeung Ching-kee for 7 years and 3 months.

The world No. 6 produced a spirited display but went down 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 to the Egyptian world No. 5 in a 51-minute battle.
