This may be the start of another US proxy war.
Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian military and nuclear sites on Friday morning that reportedly wiped out the top echelon of the country's military command as well as a number of nuclear scientists.
On the same day, Iran retaliated with waves of missiles targeting Israel. And the two sides have traded firepower in a back-and-forth contest since then.
An Iranian health ministry spokesperson, Hossein Kermanpour, said the toll since the start of Israeli strikes had risen to 224 dead and more than 1,200 injured, ninety percent of whom he said were civilians. Those killed included 60 on Saturday, half of them children, in a 14-storey apartment block flattened in the Iranian capital.
On the Israeli side, at least 13 people have been killed and 380 have been wounded, according to Al Jazeera.
The Israeli government claim that the strike was a “preventive” one, meant to address an immediate, inevitable threat on Iran’s part to construct a nuclear bomb. There appears to be no evidence for this claim. Israel’s strike was undoubtedly meticulously planned over a long period of time. A preventive attack must carry an element of self-defence, which, in turn, is generated by an emergency. No such emergency appears to have occurred.
Additionally, Israel has suggested that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report released on June 12 that condemned Iran for material violations of its Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) commitments until the early 2000s constitutes such an emergency. But even the IAEA reject that claim. There was nothing in the report that was not already known to the relevant parties.
And in case you didn't know, Israel has been aided and abetted by a complicit United States. Talking to Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to clearly confirm that, saying he informed US President Donald Trump ahead of launching the attacks. Netanyahu also projected that regime change in Iran could be a result of Israel’s attacks.
And Trump even warned Tehran not to widen its retaliation to include US targets in the Middle East; in fact, he didn’t rule out more direct US involvement beyond the vast arsenal and intelligence the US provides to Israel.
Contrarily, the US president also claimed peace could be reached “soon”, suggesting that many diplomatic meetings were taking place. What balderdash!
Let's cut the bullshit! The United States is behind this war!
As I write this post, Israel and Iran trade heavy fire for a fourth straight day, with mounting casualties and expanding targets (such as a gas field and an oil depot), marking a sharp escalation in hostilities between the longtime foes. It has heightened fears of a protracted all-out war – and I for one, am welcoming it.
I have read that in Israel, there are long lines stretching from every open store, hardware to food – illustrating that Israelis have entered blank survival mode. I'm glad because they'll hopefully get to experience first-hand what the Gazans have to live through every minute, every hour, every day!
Iran should abandon diplomacy. And be prepared to fight Israel to the end. Only Iran has the boldness and chutzpah to stop the Zionist regime in their tracks. And finally bring peace and stability to the region.
