Incompetence Would Be an Apt Description for Malaysia's MOH

China’s National Health Commission disclosed that the country recorded 2,016 local Covid-19 cases in January 2021, the highest monthly record since March 2020.

But in a country with a population of 1.398 billion (2019) and moreover, if you contrast this to Malaysia which notched up for a third day running, 5,000+ cases yesterday – China is doing GREAT!

Now, before we start to get even more alarmed and worried, we must know that what Malaysians have been told does not necessarily correspond with the actual facts on the ground.

Yesterday’s admission by Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah that the Covid-19 numbers that had rolled off his tongue were in fact, NOT real-time numbers!

The Ministry of Health Director-General (left) confirmed that the surge in coronavirus cases has been caused by a backlog in case reporting, including positive cases detected in 2020. He conceded that the delays in recording Covid-19 results at the ministry’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre and the Public Health Laboratory Information System (SIMKA) were responsible for the precipitous increase in the past three days.

So now Malaysians cannot even trust what the authorities tell us. This is incompetence, is it not?

St Mirren deservedly claimed a first away win over Celtic in 31 years when they defeated the Scottish Premiership champions 2-1.

Celtic’s only goal came from Odsonne Edouard in the thirty-second minute.

The Paisley side’s last eleven trips to Glasgow’s Celtic Park had yielded a total of just two goals. On Saturday, they reached that mark inside 37 minutes.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon himself admitted: “It was a poor performance, a poor result. We expect to build a crescendo of pressure and break teams down but that's been missing this season”. He’s damn right – this is not the Celtic I know.

This latest sobering setback leaves Celtic 23 points behind leaders Rangers. Even with two games in hand on their Old Firm rivals – I know I’m witnessing the unravelling of their season at a disquieting rate, with just one win in their last six games.
