Wuhan’s Two Makeshift Hospitals Built in Mere Days

Huoshenshan Hospital is China’s 1,000-bed hospital dedicated to treat Covid-19 patients in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak.

Construction of the 645,000-square-foot makeshift medical facility began on the evening of January 23, 2020 and completed ten days later on February 02. Patients were admitted the following day.

Watch the CGTN video here:

It is one of two makeshift hospitals that Chinese authorities decided to build in order to relieve hospitals swamped with patients.

Leishenshan Hospital, the second facility is just 25 miles away from Huoshenshan  and it was completed on February 05.

These two temporary hospitals, which are prefabricated buildings, provided a total of 2,600 beds.

FYI, both hospitals were modelled on the blueprints of a medical facility which was set up in Beijing in 2003 to help tackle the SARS epidemic – and this had helped speed up the construction process. In fact, Xiaotangshan Hospital was built in just seven days, allegedly breaking the world record for the fastest construction of a hospital.

Amazing China!
