Day 4: Turning to China to Bail Out 1MDB

On Wednesday, Najib Razak's former special officer Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin (left) highlighted that the former prime minister had assembled in astonishing quick time, a handful of mega infrastructure projects that Malaysia could offer to China's state-owned enterprises that could help to bail out the debt-laden 1MDB.

[Note: These projects were subsequently scrutinized and reviewed by the Pakatan Harapan government – and as we know now, the Multi-Product Pipeline and Trans-Sabah Gas Pipeline had been aborted, and the East Cast Rail Link, has since then, been renegotiated].

Amhari testified that this was the gist of the document he received via email entitled "Action Point: China-Malaysia" following his "secret mission" to China on June 28, 2016 at the behest of Najib (left).

He also mentioned about Terence Geh (also known as Geh Choh Heng), who was one of the key figures wanted by the MACC over the 1MDB scandal.

Geh (right) had been hand-picked by Low and then appointed by Najib to be the overall coordinator of the 1MDB-SRC debt resolution program.

He told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that when he went to China as Najib’s personal 'diplomatic' representative to cut infrastructure deals – he found out that Low was there too and the latter was very much involved with the discussions on the said projects. In fact, the terms that would be deliberated with China were only made known to Amhari at the very last minute, which gave him the impression that the terms were pre-discussed.

In fact, Low (left) led the talks with China’s state-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), and would only translate certain parts to him as the whole session was conducted in Mandarin.

Amhari admitted his fear that he would get dragged into the Najib-Low's schemes to cover up 1MDB's losses, the payment of International Petroleum Investment Company debts related to the misappropriation of 1MDB funds and/or the provision of political funds.

Still, he conceded both he and his immediate superior, the late Azlin Alias (right) who was Najib’s principal private secretary faithfully carried out the orders they received from Najib and/or Low.

And they did so because they were fearful of losing their jobs and harm towards themselves and their families.

The jigsaw puzzle pieces are fitting together nicely.

I was at Menara Sunway in Bandar Sunway, Selangor, having accepted an invitation from Timothy Low, the Contest Chair to be the test speaker for the Shine Toastmasters Club Speech Evaluation contest on Thursday.

Of course, I was more than pleased to take up this opportunity!

I am a Toastmaster and very serious about working on my speaking skills. I am fully aware that to be a good public speaker – I need to speak, speak and speak.

And so, I delivered a CC speech titled More Than a Woman. A declamation drenched with rhetorical devices and dripping with humor.

Then five Shine Toastmasters joined in together to shower me with a torrential deluge of illuminating insights.

I can honestly tell you, I was soaked to the skin with penetrating, perspicacious and precious feedback. A whole-lotta learning!

I must thank Susan Woo, who also attended the said event, for taking shots of the speaker in action:
