Najib Razak Must Pay Tax over Undeclared Income

Just over a week ago, the Inland Revenue Board reportedly billed Najib Razak (right) for an extra RM1.47 billion of income tax which they said was due between 2011 and 2017.

The Edge Financial Daily quoted anonymous sources saying the former prime minister had undeclared taxable income of close to RM4 billion during that period – which also included the RM2.6 billion that Najib had maintained was a donation he received from Saudi Arabia and supposedly connected to King Abdullah Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Speaking to Al Jazeera’s 101 East show last year, Najib had openly admitted that he did not verify the source of the RM2.6 billion that ended up in his personal bank account and which had allegedly been siphoned from 1MDB.

The business newspaper also quoted tax experts saying donations are subject to income tax, and he had committed an offence by not revealing the RM2.6 billion as his income, regardless of the source. In other words, all incomes are taxable, whether legitimately earned or not.

Meaning, as far as IRB is concerned, Najib Razak must pay tax over the undeclared income. And rightly so.

On Sunday, the clown was in Kuala Selangor in Selangor, ostensibly to meet his fans.

And he was greeted by Malaysians who wanted to remind him that we have not forgotten his thieving ways. Besides, we are waiting for the day he will be thrown in jail.
