An Evening with the Babas and Nyonyas

Yesterday, I attended an event that showcased a centuries-old culture consisting of traditional love ballads, dondang sayang, joget, keroncong and pantun. And there was a re-enactment of a traditional Baba Nyonya wedding too.

This Gala Night Dinner kicked off the 26th Baba Nyonya International Convention 2013, Kuala Lumpur (November 29-December 01, 2013). KL-Selangor Peranakan Baba Nyonya Association president Dr Lee Su Kim said proudly: “Ours is a golden heritage worthy of preserving.”

The three-day event, held at Holiday Villa Subang Jaya in Selangor attracted delegates not only from Malaysia (mainly from Malacca, Penang, Kelantan, KL and Selangor) but also from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and I am sure, a few other places as well.

Photos of the said event:

It is already the end of November and I have now attended 205 regular Toastmasters meetings for this calendar year (compare this to 183 meetings over the same corresponding period in 2012) and 71 different Toastmasters clubs (compared to 60 clubs in January-November 2012). In fact, I have already surpassed the whole of 2012’s tally of 198 regular meetings in 65 different clubs.
