Aunty Mei and the stack of RM50 notes

Tuw Yin Lan, the 71-year-old anti-Lynas Green March activist who is more popularly known as Aunty Mei was arrested after trying to demand an apology from Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob outside the MB's office at the state secretariat building in Kuantan on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Thursday's issue of Chinese daily China Press, Tuw was angry with Adnan's earlier comment that the participants in the 300km Green March from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur last month had only walked 200 meters and completed the rest of their journey "in luxury and in motorcars". She was one of those marchers and she bristled with fury that he had made that reckless remark.

After a five-minute round of vulgar exchanges with the septuagenarian, Adnan took out a stack of ringgit notes with which he tried to pacify Tuw and even offered to "buy food" for her. This got Tuw riled up even more and she threw a poster she was holding at Adnan. The police blocked her move.

The furious activist then tried to charge at Adnan, but she was stopped just in time by two of her friends who had rushed to the scene after being informed.

The three were later arrested by police and taken to the Kuantan police district headquarters to be investigated under Section 186 and 189 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions and for threatening injury to a public servant. They were released at about 4:00 PM that day.

One of the three arrested, Wong Chun Yuan, told Malaysiakini that the stack of money that Adnan took out was in RM50 notes. Wong claimed after the incident, another man approached him, also with a stack of RM50 notes, and asked him to take Tuw for a meal.

Anyway, understanding Malaysians won’t put all the blame on Adnan – they know he is probably so used to flashing money at everything! He comes from a privileged UMNO class of ugly leaders who buy their way through everything; they have long-forgotten that they were elected to be servant leaders. Prime Minister Najib Razak has taught his UMNO flunkies well; they are very adept at using money to silence people. In fact, Adnan does not even know how to communicate respectfully with an elderly lady. He is abusive, boorish and churlish!
