Wrongful Dismissal

It takes courage for former KL Criminal Investigation Department chief Mat Zain Ibrahim, who was the person tasked to investigate Anwar Ibrahim's black-eye incident (left) to suggest that former premier Mahathir Mohamad – who made the momentous decision to give his then deputy, Anwar Ibrahim the sack – could be investigated for abetting present Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and former IGP Musa Hassan in fabricating or concealing material facts against Anwar (Webpage, published September 17, 2012).

The revelation that Mahathir Mohamad did dismiss Anwar based on flawed information is interesting. The former prime minister had written in his memoirs, A Doctor in the House, that he was convinced Anwar was involved in homosexual activities, based on information he had gathered from both Musa (who was then the investigating officer in Anwar’s sodomy case) and the then IGP Abdul Rahim Noor (Chapter 53, p 684). That, and his interrogation of the alleged victims, had led to Anwar's firing and later arrest. Anwar was subsequently charged with committing sodomy, dubbed as Sodomy I, involving his family's driver, Azizan Abu Bakar.

This is unless Mahathir can show proof that he had taken necessary action to prevent the two (i.e. Musa and Rahim) from doing so. This, Mat Zain said, follows the concession by Musa in an interview with Malaysiakini on May 31, 2012 that he took Anwar's blood sample from Mat Zain's black-eye probe to conduct DNA test for another case – the one involving allegations of sodomy. [Based on the Malaysiakini report at webpage, published June 01, 2012, Anwar while in police custody had given his consent for his blood sample to be taken on September 28, 1998, for a HIV test by a Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) doctor only, but that this sample was also taken for DNA tests, without the doctor’s (i.e. Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof) consent on October 15, 1998. BTW, the doctor should have insisted that the blood sample taken for the HIV test is not suitable for the DNA test, since the procedure for DNA test samples must follow certain protocol].

Musa had already owned up to having used the blood sample for DNA tests with samples taken from the stained mattress and so, it is not wrong to conclude that Musa did not have concrete evidence when he briefed Mahathir. "Otherwise, why would Musa want to steal the blood sample from HKL and do the DNA tests on the mattress if he had all the evidence when he briefed Mahathir?" Mat Zain had correctly asked.

Therefore, Anwar was not only assaulted but framed. Just as many Malaysians had suspected all along, Anwar is innocent. Of course, don’t expect anything to come out of this because everybody is covering everybody else’s ass! But Mahathir had wronged Anwar and he knows it – it’s just that he is too idiotic and obstinate to admit it.
