Snappy Answers

Thursday saw me at the Metro Toastmasters meeting. It was well-attended but better still, it was a fun meeting. When you have the senior members of the club like Shukur, Steven, Yee and Helen there – whad’ya expect? I was one of four speech evaluators that evening. This meeting earned an 8 out of a 10 and it was worth the trip to KL.

MAS Mawar and MAS Cempaka Toastmasters Clubs organized yet another Youth Leadership Program and I was there on two of the days (i.e. Thursday and Friday) to lend a helping hand. It is wonderful to work with teens and this particular event was something to be treasured because when the 19 participants delivered their speeches on the final day, a few of them really stood out. Puteri Ayu, Jeannice Khor, Christal Anne and Erica Yap. What was really outstanding is the fact that Puteri and Christal were from the under-18 group and the other two were from the under-15 group! Their elocution skills can easily surpass that of many of the adult Toastmasters I know!

I am a fan of MAD and one of their regular cartoonists is Al Jaffee, famous for the MAD magazine fold-ins. The other is his "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions”. I found this on YouTube this morning – a video of his live appearance at Joe's Pub in NYC where he explains how he came up with the idea for “Snappy Answers”. Al is 91-years-old but more lucid than many people one-quarter his age.
