Guns Blazing!

Last evening I journeyed to KL’s Jalan Bukit Bintang – Federal Hotel, to be precise – to attend the ITC Bintang Toastmasters meeting. They had a speech marathon – 5 speeches in total – and I was invited as one of the Evaluators. I heard one speech that really confounded me – it was perplexing and puzzling – and I said so. Other speeches were not that great either. And even the evaluations suffered as a result – yes, including mine! Benny Chia was perhaps the only exception because he was calm and collected as he evaluated the speaker. It was not surprising, therefore, that he was voted the Best Speech Evaluator. I would give this meeting a score of 4 out of a 10.

And Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in her policy speech to 944 Wanita UMNO delegates at the UMNO general assembly yesterday came out with guns blazing – at least, that’s how The Sun newspaper described it! It is true, I admit, because she was full of the fire of false indignation! Sadly, she was shooting blanks! She gamely tried to put out the searing inferno that is “Cattlegate” because it has become too hot of a scorcher. So she challenged PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to quit over what she said were “unmentionable offences” of her husband, Anwar Ibrahim, if she was forced to resign as minister over the NFC fraud.

Instead of addressing the many burning questions pertaining to the NFC, she attacked Zuraida Kamaruddin, Rafizi Ramli and others in PKR for washing her dirty linen in public! Isn’t this so typical of an UMNO leader? She kept mum at first and then, she denied, and when the public snickered at her denials, she tai-chied this whole crooked business away by aiming for Anwar Ibrahim! If this is not a superfluous attempt by a desperate Shahrizat to worm herself out of this cause celebre, I don’t know what is!

And worse, she has totally lost the plot! Anwar’s sodomy charge is but a wicked ploy by UMNO to kill Anwar off from the political scene. This cannot even come close to being compared to the Shahrizat family's calculated misappropriation of NFC funds and the conflict of interest in awarding this lucrative project to Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail (i.e. Shahrizat’s husband) who has no expertise in the livestock business in the first place. Now I know Shahrizat's hide is thicker than those cows because she has the blustering bravado to throw a dare to Wan Azizah at the UMNO's general assembly!

Lembu Shahrizat diutamakan, Rakyat diperlembu-lembukan!
