US Tops 3 Million Coronavirus Cases

Dr. Anthony Fauci (right), the US top infectious disease expert, who has of late rediscovered his voice, said Monday that the status of the coronavirus pandemic in the US is "really not good".

That is an understatement of epic proportions!

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has America firmly in a stranglehold – 3 million cases as of yesterday!

That represents 25.9% of the world’s total. Definitely, that is a figure not to be trifled with. As new cases surge across the country, alarm has already been sounded that hospitals are rapidly approaching capacity in both Florida and Texas.

"We are in free fall", lamented Dr. Rochelle Walensky (left), chief of infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

"Let's remember there are 300 million people in this country who remain susceptible and have been uninfected so far, and this virus is far from running out of people to infect", she added. "And until we change our behavior to prevent these infections, the infections are going to continue to soar".

I expect her advice will fall on deaf ears. Americans don't listen very well.

In the meantime, India’s numbers soared too – with more than 700,000 cases, it is now the third-highest in the world, behind the US and Brazil. Fatalities are also on an upswing, surging to more than 20,000.

Pakistan and South Africa have surpassed 230,000 and 200,000 cases respectively.

And Qatar topped 100,000 cases on Monday too.
